I have crazy ideas sometimes.

Hacking the carrot

Not the best photo taken but I was cooking dinner, washing dishes and trying to keep my very active, attention needy son busy.  He's been biting into everything lately, including me so I had to find something that would ease his teething pains and that he would not get bored with.

I hacked this carrot using a pacifier ring. Attached it  to his shirt et voila! I got 20 minutes of quiet time from Maximlien so that I could finish dinner and well relax.

It's pretty self explanatory how it works: Big, fat carrot + Pacifier ring = Mama not going crazy from picking up carrot off the floor every 5 seconds. Give it a try... ;)

You can't tell but he's worked off about an inch of the carrot. Eaten some of it and let some carrot bites fall on the floor. I think I'll be bringing carrot sticks on the plane with us for entertainment.

i wish the peanut was into finger foods! she won't have anything to do with the carrots that i cook for her and cut up. maybe i should try a big raw one like this! she did eat cheerios for the first time today :)

That is a fabu idea! They need sumptin to chomp on. That picking up (insert item)the tenth time is not so funny anymore chez nous.

have a great trip to the states!

That is so cute!

And hey, desperate times call for desperate measures, right?? :-)

Great idea!

I'm trying this tonight! Does he ever bite chunks off?...No! Too hard...it's brilliant! :)

Your son is so adorable - and I love reading your blog. Please don't think me a spoil-sport for saying that pediatricians have considered carrots a choking hazard for kids less than six months - and maybe beyond, I'm not sure. Maybe you know and could post the age at which it is a safe food so no one with a really young baby offers him a carrot.

As Gretchen mentioned this should be a supervised activity. And you shouldn't give a baby a carrot that is small enough for them to choke on. I had give Max a carrot that was too big for him to fit entirely into his mouth. And I watched him as he played. When the carrot got too small, I took it away from him and give him something else to gnaw on. Just like everything you give your child to eat, you should watch them to make sure they don't choke. Just use common sense, everyone! :)
